Trusting in God means letting go of our fears, surrendering our future to him, holding onto faith, and attaching ourselves to those dreams and goals for our lives that only He can give you. No one else can tell you what YOUR goals and visions are for Your life except the creator. Certainly the Lord can confirm to you what your destiny is by another person, but you must hear it from Him. I believe the danger that befalls many Christians is that they try to establish their goals whether it be in a career, business endeavor or a relationship by replacing these goals/visions/desires and calling it God’s goals. When in fact they never took their plans and life goals to the Lord to begin with.
Our goals and visions for our life requires that we be honest in our hearts to ourselves and with God. Sometimes people can tell themselves what they want to hear, saying it in their hearts and minds so that they think it is God telling them when it’s not. When in doubt pray, read His word and fast for guidance. During the period of seeking the Lord the questions you should ask yourself are:
1) Does your decision go against His word? i.e. causing you to sin or be in violation of the word.
2) Does your decision take you further away from God?
3) Does it bring glory to God?
The answer then is very clear, a No is a No go, it is not from Him.
Right now I am trusting the Lord in a particular area of my life and I am thankful that the Lord has literally taken my hand and guided me through this lesson. During this process I had stepped through all of the above questions positively. What I have learned is that if God leads you into something even if it doesn’t work out as you had envisioned then it was for His purpose and He will certainly use that for your benefit. It may not seem like it at first but in the end sometimes He brings people or allows events to occur in your life to help to soften and smooth out the rough edges in your character or teach you a life lesson.
I pray that the Holy Spirit will touch anyone whom may be having difficulty in trusting the Lord in their situation and are facing doubts in their decisions or path to take in their lives. May God’s Spirit and word help you to either make a Godly decision, let go of something not meant to be, or take the steps in your journey confident that God is with you although it may not seem like it now.
Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.
