Watching for contractions

Just as a pregnant woman has contractions as she nears the term of her pregnancy so is the world experiencing contractions as we near the time of Christ’s return.  What does contractions have to do with Christ’s return?  Well, when a woman has many contractions close together you know the baby is about to be birthed.  As painful as it may be  what soon awaits her is one of the most miraculous day of her life, her new child.    517549_pregnant_woman

In the same manner quickened contractions can be likened to events foretold in the bible that would increase in the time right before Christ’s return.  Well folks, we are certainly feeling the contractions lately.  The latest trembling and contracting being felt and that has gotten world wide attention is the Swine Flu virus.

Is it THE virus, the grand daddy of all pandemics that is predicted by scientists to come onto the scene sometime in the future and possibly be greater than the Spanish Flu of 1918?   Will it be on a lower level than the Spanish Flu but still make an impact such as the 1968 Hong Kong flu?  Well it is still too early to tell exactly where the new Swine flu is headed.  Thankfully as of late there have been no deaths in the U.S. as a result of the swine flu unlike our border country Mexico who have lost about 150 lives so far as of this writing.  But still this strange pestilence warrants careful watch.

“Close analysis showed the disease is a mixture of  swine, human and avian viruses, according to the CDC.

Humans can occasionally catch swine flu from pigs but rarely have they been known to pass it on to other people.”

The early onset of the disease honing in and striking healthy individuals in their prime also bares an uncanny similarity to the 1918 Spanish Influenza when it first arrived on the scene.

Most of the dead were aged between 25 and 45, a health official said. It was a worrying sign as seasonal flu can be more deadly among the very young and the very old but a hallmark of pandemics is that they affect healthy young adults.

So what are we to think when unknown diseases with no cure suddenly crop up on the scene.  Does the bible say anything about it?  Is it the ONE?  The experts so far are saying that they do not know enough about it yet.   It can certainly fizzle out for now until next flu season.  Or it can mutate and wreck havoc.

But the word of God does shed some light on pestilences and these things shouldn’t catch the believer unaware who is watching in joyful anticipation for the promise of the Lord’s return.

In the gospel of Luke the apostles asked Jesus about the signs of the times at the end of the age, essentially wanting to know what should they look for to let them know when the things he is speaking about will take place.

Jesus then goes on to describe what some of these events will be.  He says,

There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. –  Luke 21:11

There’s that pesky word, pestilences.  Is the swine flu a pestilence?  You bet it is.  Merriam Webster says this –

Pestilence n. – 1. A contagious or infectious epidemic disease that is virulent and devastating.

And what does the word say again about these ‘pestilences’?.. that it would be in various places.  That means all over, here, there, never know where it may crop up.  Is this the first pestilence the world has had?  No, of course not.

Some of the more recent pestilences that have cropped up and received alot of attention within the last decade include SARS (severe acute respiratory symdrome) which reared its head in 1992 in China.

The Avian Bird Flu, also known as influenza A, found mostly in birds all of a sudden starting appearing in humans around 1997.  Has SARS or the Avian Bird Flu gone away?  No, these pestilences are still with us today.  We can now add swine flu into the growing list of pestilences emerging worldwide.  Certainly there are many others but we know that since there is still no real cure to wipe it out we may have it around for sometime.

The swine flu as the other pestilences are one of the signs to watch for that signal the return of Christ, so really we can expect and should expect there to be an increase in pestilences such as the swine flu, and perhaps greater than this to come on the scene.  Not to mention the earthquakes and famines, but that’s another topic for another day!

Don’t fall asleep friend! Keep watching, listening for those contractions and do not fear when they come.   But be warned, Jesus said:

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.  For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.  Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”  – Luke 21: 34-36

What day is that?  Ah ha.. the Day of the Lord’s return.  How close are we? Close, the contractions keep coming and they are not letting up.  Don’t be caught unaware.

In Christ,

Twilight – L

  1. Amen! We must not let our hearts be weighed down with … cares of this life …. or even fear!

We should be meditating on Psalm 91 for these last days … a thousand may fall at our side, ten-thousand at our right hand, but it will not come near my family .. in Jesus’ name.

Look up, everyone! Our redemption draweth nigh!

    Hallelujah!

He is at the door. Time to trim the wicks.

    God bless you
