Mark 16: 4-6 “But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”
Today is an amazing day, Jesus Christ has risen! This is celebrated as Easter Sunday, also called the Resurrection Day. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the core foundation of the Christian faith.
Why is this important? Why should this matter to you?
1) Without His resurrection we have no faith. This is what the Apostle Paul said:
1 Corinthians 15:12-15 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised.
2) Without His resurrection we have no forgiveness of sins.
1 Corinthians 15:17 – And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
3) Without His resurrection we have no future and no forever. Without hope for the future, there would be no meaning for TODAY.
Without his resurrection there would be no hope for the FUTURE. What future could there possibly be then? We would just die in our sins with no possible way of escape. Certainly not through our good works.
Isaiah 64:6 – But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousness [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
But Jesus says this ..
John 10:10 – I have come that they (believers) may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Jesus resurrection solidifies our …
Christ conquered death, he broke free from the tomb. He was God incarnate, He came down to earth as a man, yet wholly God. He sacrificed His life, laid it down, so that we may live and be set free from the law of sin and death. Only through Christ is this possible. Christ has broken free and that same power that has set Christ free is available to us, to set us free from sin, if we only just believe by faith and accept his gift. That’s something to be excited about if you ask me. Not just today, nor 1 Sunday a year, but everyday. Thank goodness for that!
